Re: Glue sniffing?
I didn't need to do any of that, my trade printing, had enough solvents and lead fumes to give anyone a high just walking through the door

Hahahahaha quality. I''m glad someone else remembers it. Was around the same age at the time,13/14. The chemists clocked onto us as well so was really hard to get! As you say, mental buzz. Haha!

Chinky weasel 12.56. Zoff fuck me that was a mad buzz youre the 1st other person ive heard mention it the chemists round our way stopped selling it to us I remember it was about 13 pence a bottle. As I said well mental. It predated the glue trend. Mind you we used to nick the evo stick in woodwork and disappear into the store room and get smashed the teacher wised up to that as well so used to lock it in his draw. So we used to distract him and someone would lift his keys from his case get the glue the put it back. Its quite amazing how resourceful 13 year olds could be

During WW2 the luftwaffe repeatedly target Plesseys.

They hit a row of terraced housing just yards from where my mum and her family lived which broke all the windows in Highbury Gardens, and new houses had to be built in Kent View Gardens (horrible name for a road).

They also hit cricklefields as well

During WWII, Plessey used the new tube tunnels between Newbury Park and Wanstead, as their factory

Re: Glue sniffing?
geep, I think you probably entered via Aldborough road, which was just off the Romford/London rd. Its the road my school was in.

But, this was not the main entrance

Re: Glue sniffing?
I'm sure they had entrances all over the place, it was massive but the main entrance was Vicarage road.

http://www.britishtelephones.com/histples.htm

Expansion of the business necessitated a move to larger premises, and this took place with a move to Vicarage Lane, in Ilford, Essex, some miles to the east of London proper, although forming part of the Greater London conurbation. At the time of the move the Vicarage Lane site was up for sale for a reported £20,000 and Heyme was surprised when his offer of £7,500 was accepted. At the time the site contained only a small two storey building and a few huts, but has since been completely covered with mainly multi-storey buildings.

I definitely entered somewhere along the Romford/London Rd, or a short side street off it

Re: Glue sniffing?
I can't remember it being that big.

Maybe they progressively shut it down and "my" bit was the last to go.

Or maybe it's just too long ago to remember properly.

Re: Glue sniffing?
Coff, Plessey's was a massive plant, it ran alongside my school and the far end of the plant was almost at the high road (Romford/London Road) mate.

My mum worked there for a while.

Re: Glue sniffing?
Never. Although went through a stupid phase of putting a towel over your mouth and nose then spraying deodrant into the towel and breathing in. Got a bit of a buzz off it. Stupid and young.

Soon stopped when my mate did it on a skiing trip and fainted for 2 minutes. I am slapping him round the face and genuinely thought he was dead. He woke up, sat bolt upright and ran out of the room. I found him later walking around the town square. He was ok but it shit me up.

Re: Glue sniffing?
Avoided it like the plague.

Worked in Plessey's on Romford Road (or its continuation East or West) for a week, cleaning milled components in industrial solvents. My co-workers were obviously a bit mentally damaged.

*waits for someone to tell me it only takes a week*
